94 940T Brake rotor turning? 900 1994

Hi all-

It is time for brakes on my 94 940T that I bought in May. The rear needs rotors, but the front rotors have enough material that they can be turned. But, the FAQs says Volvo does not recommend turning rotors.

Should I turn them? And what does everyone recommend for rear rotors and front and rear pads? There are a lot of different brands/manufacturers available. I have read the FAQs, but it is not clear to me if there is a particular brand or Volvo OEM that I should use or avoid. The anti-squeal shims concern me, but I don't know which pads have the better shims.
Thanks.
