86 240 No Start (Help!) 200

Well with the coming of Winter in Southern California my son's 86 240 (230F/LH)has developed a "no start" condition that I am trying to run to earth. I have worked through the troubleshooting (Bentley manual, but mostly Brickboard FAQs) and have determined the following:

1. Starter turns and car cranks normally, but both fuel pumps are silent.

2. Swapped out relay for known good spare...no fix.

3. Jumpering the relay plug between pins 30 and 87b causes both fuel pumps to run (huray!).

4. Putting the relay back in with the cover removed shows me that the first set of contacts close when the ingnition key is turned "run", but the second set of contacts do not close when I turn to "start"

5. Playing with the plug on the ignition module (right-side inner-fender behind headlight) caused the pumps to run and car to start but it died after a couple of minutes. I jiggled plug some more, and it started briefly a couple of times, but now it's dead again.

I think it is likely either the ignition module or the module harness (and plug). Planning to burn a vacation day tomorrow hit the pick-a-part and try to swap this out.

Does this sound right? Any comments or suggestion would be welcome.

Thanks in advance!

Cliff
