Bad idle in my 740 wagon 1987 700 1987

I'm having a trouble in the idle when I accelerate and stop fast (In traffic jams) the engine tries to turn off; so I need to drive with the two feets in the pedals to maintained the engine running. When I start the engine the idle is fine in neutral also when I shift to reverse or drive. The problem is just when I accelerate fast and take out the foot of the pedal fast. Also I have the check engine light on and I like to know what can I do to read the code or if a scanner or something can I buy. Please if anyone can help me.Thanks
