I have had my 93 640 Turbo for about a month now, and I love the car, but was disappointed at the lack of a deadpedal for my left foot. My left leg is never comfortable on trips, and I want a footrest!
After much internet searching, I found only one by Focia Tec p/n 32546, but it is a german part that has to be ordered, appears to offer nothing that will match the decor of the car. I cannot find anything in the auto parts stores.
So I made one - simple parts
1. block of wood
2. old mountain bike tire
3. velcro strips
I started with a 4"x4"x9" block of wood, ripped it to a 2" depth (I could have used a 2x4, but I wanted a true 2 inches thickness), and made a beveled cut at the bottom, for fit against the car floor. For grip, I cut a piece of rubber from the bike tire, and screwed it into place with small flat headed stainless woodscrews (robertson). Then I trimmed the excess rubber with an exacto knife.
To mount, I just applied strips of velcro to the underside, and the matching velcro onto the plastic rubber inset on the volvo carpet. The block has a bit of movement, as the carpet isn't glued down, but this solution is nice in a way because you don't have to drill holes into the floorpan.
I haven't painted it yet, but wil be painting any exposed wood black. But the result is a nice grippy footrest that increases the comfort factor significantly. It even improves cornering, as you can brace your body against the seat! Like having recaros.
Will post pictures if anyone's interested.
Tim.
