battery doesnt charge 900 1993

My volvo 940SE turbo auto has an occasional irritating problem. The warning lights in the dash need twisting every year to make sure the connections are good. Twice now the battery has gone flat because of this, because it seems unless they make a good connection the alternator wont charge the battery. Does anyone know a way of bypassing this problem because it always happens so suddenly and I dont want to keep taking the dash out. The previous owner put a load of tape on the back but that didnt help, can I hook up a wire to bypass the dash as regards the charging circuit, if so what's the easiest way to do it . . .

many thanks for any ideas
