Ford 2.3 with T5 in a 544? 444-544

I have a 65 544 with a B18B and M41 in it. I don't really drive it that much so I am thinking of modifying it a little. A friend of mine built up a Ford 2.3 four cylinder engine with a T5 transmission and ran it in a Ford Ranger pickup at Bonnyville Salt flats last summer. He now wants to switch to a Taurus V6. So... I have an opportunity to purchase the 2.3 and T5. It looks like the motor is very close in physical size to the B18. But... I think that I will probably have to enlarge the transmission tunnel. The T5 is 8 inches wide. Just wondering if anyone out there has tried this swap. Thanks, wayne.
