Hi. I want to share this letter (about our Amazons on the 60īs in my country) with yours:

Hi,

I lived in Lima from 1957 to 1963 and attended a few GT racing events there during that period. The Volvo 122s was a very competitive machine in those days in Peru, racing against Alfa Romeo Zagato, MGB, Lotus Elan and Super 7's, Jaguar E type, and of course the little brother 544s. The 122 and the 544 were a popular and sporty car in Peru in those days, often seen street racing as well. I was barely a teenager then, but it stuck in my memory bank
as a "cool" car. Now I am fortuante to own one myself, a 122s of 1963 vintage, completely restored and RED, and a quite fast little machine.

PS: I drove my Amazon in Alaska several years and there were few 4x4s that could keep up with it in the snow when equipped with tire chains.

Myself fell in love with the 121 (amazons) on 1967: I saw one winning the first peruvian nationwide rally ("Caminos del Inca", you can see old photos on http://www.brickboard.com/GALLERY/images/3983.jpg and http://www.brickboard.com/GALLERY/images/3982.jpg). After near 40 years, I have my 1966 "rojo" 121.

btw: Does anyone have a bit of personal history about our cars on 60īs or 70īs to share?
