87 740 gle stalling 700

Hi guys need some help:
This morning when I started the car I noticed it was idling a bit on the rough side but as it warmed up idle became normal.I drove it for 50/60 miles with no problems. I made several stops after and the car always started and run fine. However as I pulled in to a gas station to fill up the tank I noticed the RPM needle going completly crazy: up and down from 1000 to 3000,but without the engine reving up-just the tach needle. As I drove home on the highway RPM seemed to be OK all the way . Tonight I went out again locally and first the car stalled twice as I came to a stop for red lights and then would stall even during driving. It did it a good 5/6 times on a 2.5 mile trip, returning home.I should mentioned that after stalling it always started. As I was feeeing the car about to die I would press on the gas and the engine/RPM would not respond.
And when I restarted it the engine would respond to the pressure on the gas pedal.
What should I look in to tomorrow morning?
Tks for your suggestions.
