any V8 conversions? 444-544

There is a 31-reply thread on just this prospective project in the Dec 2003 Archives for this 444-544 list, beginning on Dec 5. I posted some contributions based on actual measurements of a 544 and a 289 Ford engine on hand here.

Since then I have seen in Street Rodder mag some articles covering remote oil filter adapters and short-shafted water pumps. Length of a 302, and width at the oil filter and exh manifold outlets, plus sump and oil pump location, are issues for fit of a SBF into a PV. The inquiring person back then turned out to be willing to change to different steering and suspension, which was not clearly understood when many of the answers were posted.

I still think the first topic to explore is what your own personal satisfaction and pleasure in such a project is primarily to be derived from. There is acquisition of info and skills, there's design, and fabrication, and assembly, and testing and development (troubleshooting), and ultimately use of the finished results. Tailoring the project to avoid any phases you don't enjoy ought to be considered.
