My son is now driving my '93 245 with approx. 150K miles on it after I had quite a bit of work done on it over the past two years...radiator, water pump, air mass meter, plug wires, rotor/distributor, shocks, bushings, IPD sway bars, brakes, airbag replaced, a/c compressor, motor mounts, battery, etc. After all of that I thought it would be in pretty good shape for a family car. My daughter-in-law was driving it a couple of weeks ago and it just stopped running. They had it towed to a local indy shop, which said the cause was a bad plug wire. OK...although the plug wires were only a year old. The following week it died again and wouldn't start after repeated cranking. They pushed it back (with their '01 240 115K) to the same indy mechanic (Chapel Hill, NC). This time they were told that it was something with the crankshank which caused a screwup somewhere in the fuel sensing mechanism. They replaced the part and it seems to run fine.
Does this sound reasonable to the board, and what do you think they replaced? The mechanic said he found it by putting the car on the lift and poking around the rear part of the car. I have done some minor work on the car, but am not an expert by any stretch of the imagination.
