Exhaust Front Pipe Bracket 700 1990

Found this morning that my 90 745 makes a low, rumbling noise around the converter area. I jacked it up and noticed that the front exhaust pipe, which has a welded clamp that is bolted to an oval-shaped heavy wire bracket near the tranny bellhousing, has failed at that bracket: rust has corroded the clamp and caused the pipe to drop away from the bracket. The only repair is (1) new front pipe assembly in its entirety or (2) kludge something together.

I chose (2). I found some stainless steel zip-tie cable ties at McMaster Carr for about $6. A couple of these, wrapped around the bottom of the wire and then all the way around the pipe, should do the trick for a year or two until the entire exhaust from the manifold back will be replaced. We'll see how it works and report the results.
