Cold starting 700

Scott / Mike,

I had similar cold 'power-lock' problems on my 85 740. I would also get relay-chattering (about 2-3 secs long) whenever I opened/closed the locks.

All this vanished when I isolated and fixed a bad battery -ve ground connection. There are 2 ground wires that fork out from the -ve battery terminal: one to the body, and one to the engine. Check both and make sure ends are clean. The one connected to the bottom of the engine block is usually soaked with oil if any of your front seals have leaked in the past.

You could also use one line of your jumper-cables to connect the negative battery terminal directly to the starter-body and see it that makes a difference. If it does, you definitely have a bad ground that needs to be fixed.

Noel
