Volvo 740 wheel knocking 700 1989

I am having some problems with my front wheels on my Volvo 740 1989.
I had two new front wheels fitted a few months ago and about a month later some problems started to appear.
When I had my tyers fitted I also had the balancing and tracking work done at the same time. Everything seems fine until I noticed that my steering turned to the right when you let so of the wheel, which I could live with but anoying. Then developed a knocking sound when I turned the steering wheel from straight to about half of a full turn to the left. This has got worse over the last few weeks.
When I had the tyers done they told me that my "track rod ends" were worn or something like that.
Nothing was said about my brakes ect.

Can anyone help please
