John Sargent — Question on Crank Seal Tool # 5283 200 1993

John Sargent — Question on Crank Seal Tool # 5283

John,

I recently saw an older post of yours while seaching for seal info. It showed a seal carrier in a vise, with a seal installation tool (5283?) standing on the vise.

My question is how to use this tool. I bought a Hungarian version from a vendor who is no longer in business. I'm guessing that the seal should be mounted on the tool, then the tool/seal combo offered up to the shaft and driven in place (Crank Bolt is too large to use for screwing force).

The problem I have is getting the seal on the tool without damaging the seal lip. Either the O.D on the "sharp" end is too big, or the end isn't tapered sharp enough (?).

I assume the aluminum "end cap" is merely a guard for the end of the tool, and is not a working part.

Any guidance you can give me will be much appreciated,

Bruce
