Something in rear driver's side door rattles when shut 200 1990

Don't I know this problem!
When you get the fittings off and the door lining removed, you find nothing loose. Put it all back, and the rattle starts again.
My only suggestion apart from inspecting very carefully is to widen your field of search. Sound travels, and the apparent source from the perspective of the driver can actually be somewhere else, not necessarily very close.
Try seat belt recoil fixing,
Speaker mounting
Plastic seat belt cover on the door pillar
Something inside the cill, perhaps a dislodged plastic bung
Fuel pump mounting
Brake or fuel line vibrating against car
Suspension movement
Shock absorber mounting.
I have had all these at various times, and the apparent location has always been miles away from the actual source.

Good luck. I'm off to try and locate the rattling from behind the central console - again!.
