driveshaft/center bearing going out noise? 200 1989

ok, so I've been noticing a faint whine when I hit around 40mph. noise is not loud, but a soft yet high pitched sound that seems to be coming from underneath and heard more on the passengerside of the car. when I ease on the gas the noise fades away. it is intermittent and sometimes is not heard. the temp. has been around the mid 60s to low 70s here in california. I don't know if the noise is dependent on temperature. I recently had a tranny swap if this helps in diagnosing the noise. noise is only audible when moving around 40mph, and I think I can make it go away by easing on the gas and letting the noise fade and then gain speed again.

thanks.

btw, car is auto with OD
