fuel filters 80 vs 81 difference? 200 1980

hi everyone this may seem like a stupid question but i just purchased a new fuel filter and when i got home i realized that the person had looked it up wrong and it was for an 81 and my car is an 80. It is a bit longer but i have a spare mounting bracket from an old 81 that i could use to mount it. is it ok to hook an 81 fuel filter up to an 1980 fuel system. Are there any negative effects, i realize it is a fair amount bigger then the 1980 fuel filter but im not sure if this will matter 2 much. any input would be much appreciated.
