Car stalling and Catalytic Converter red hot. 200 1985

Just bought my 85 from a couple in Arlington, VA in August of this year. Have replaced the thermostat, anit-freeze, plugs, timing belt and now the car started stalling and the catalytic converter was red hot. I took it to Midas and they said the cat. was bad. Replaced with an aftermarket cat., the new cat. still get red hot and the car has less power now and could only be driven a couple of blocks from the shop.

I did also clean the throttle body after I drove it to Atlanta from the DC area. Any ideas, and does anyone know of a good Volvo mechanic for these old bricks in the ATL area??
