Hey Folks,
So it turns out that the fuel line that is leaking on my 87 760 is the metal line in betweeen the sections of hose between the tank and the pump/filter. Of course, like others, I'm angry that the designers thought it was better to use theree different parts there with one subject to corrosion and twice the connectors to cause potential leaks instead of one hose that will never rust... But what else is new? On my Land Crusier there was a similar stupidity... Fuel line but also rear radiator line! They just rust out. And don't start tellimg me about copper becoming brittle, we are talking about stationary parts affixed to the frame or chassis; engine compartment parts are another matter...
What's been frustrating me like hell is that Volvo used a circa 1/2" (probably 12mm?) metal line and hoses and no one carries fuel hose of that size here!!! I went to two big towns in the area stopping by 6 or 7 places and no joy!!! And those are not small towns either: one 35,000 and the other 80,000!
I'm pissed off (again) about our backwardness here in the bush north of Montreal... You'd think simple and cheap stuff like fuel hose would be available everywhere... NOPE! "Never heard of fuel line that size" "Doesn't exist, I've been working in the store for 15 years"!!!
Can you believe it!? One place finally said they could probably get some but I'd have to order a 100 foot rool of the stuff!
Volvo-less in the Laurentians... Me thinks I'm going on a shopping spree this Christmas in Maine!!!
