This has been progressively weeping coolant over the past few months so decided to tackle it today.
Observations:
- The Felpro gasket set I bought came with a seal and ONE O-ring (head to pump). MAKE SURE you buy the heater pipe bypass O-ring at back of pump prior to starting job. Mine was mashed out but it was the weekend and nothing close was open so I siliconed the hades out of it and re-assembled.
- I drained the coolant via rear drain, right side of block. I had a hose ready to attach to brass fitting but no coolant ever came out until I removed the plug from block. ?? I thought coolant was supposed to come through but mine had no hole through.
I think I'd be inclined to forget about this drain and remove splash guard and lower rad hose to drain coolant.
- The FAQ states to pry the pump upwards to compress the seal. HA! I sure didn't have to do that ... the seal was well compressed just locating it with 2 bolts. Have others found the fit of this seal tight? It seems to be too thick.
- I was able to loosen the power steering pump tensioner adj nut with a 1/4" ratchet and small extension. This was from above and not too bad.
- In case I forgot, Haynes is next to useless. I struggled to get the pump off after I THOUGHT I had all of the bolts removed but the manual never mentioned having to take the T-belt cover off first. AHH, that's why it ain't coming off. Thanks to the FAQ for the info.
Not a bad job--just took WAY longer than the 2-3 hrs I had anticipated. Having to ask and ask and ask again my 2yr where she hid my tools slowed me down some too!
