Alternator replacement 200

It's a half hour job tops, even if you include your favourite beverage. As rhaire stated, it is probably just the regulator/brush assembly, unless it has 400k miles or someone has done something stupid. While you are in there, consider replacing the always worn rubber mount bushings and the usually trashed grounding pigtail for him. I bet the $550 shop price did not include those, or new belts.
