Leak in Head 200 1986

Hi, I have a 1986 240DL with 270,000 miles on it. It has been running great, but recently sprung a leak in the head. This is a water (coolant) leak coming from what appears to be a manufactured hole with what must be a plug of somekind. It is on the passenger side of engine, center of the manifold area. It is not the freeze plug. It is about the size of the end of finger(5/8 or 7/8"). It appears to be some kind of hole put there intentionally then plugged. Does anyone know what it is and how do I repair the leak? Do I need a plumber or a mechanic? Jim
