544 finds new home in SC 444-544

Made it home from TX to SC. 900 miles. 26 hour bus trip, plus two days on the road. Many stops for minor repairs and adjustments.

5% odometer error (checked twice over two twenty mile segments). Don't know about speedometer error (didn't have a watch or stopwatch with me). Calculated 30 mpg at indicated 60-65 mph.

Old tires did fine. New brakes a little grabby. Carbs gummy. Wrong spring in one carb which made car nearly undriveable at first. Cruised nicely at 50-60 mph. Not as nice at 65-70 mph, but would do it fairly easily when required.

Seating technology sure has come a long way since these seats were designed. I was definitely looking forward to frequent rest and fuel stops.

Will keep you posted on planned upgrades. Thanks again for the advice and good wishes.
