New Heater Core Installation HELP!! 700 1991

My heater core in my Volvo 740 went a month ago, but I am not complaining as it has lasted 300,125 miles, and the engine is still going great. Anyway I started disassembly of everything that was needed in order to gfet to the heater core. I finally completed putting in the new core and putting everythiong back together. (IT TOOK 2 DAYS) Got to frustrated trying to do it all in one day. Anyway I attached the hoses to the new core from the engine compartment and I ran the car to make sure there were no leaks. Well not only were there no leaks, but NO HEAT!!! I installed the new heater core with the hopes of having heat for the winter. CAN ANYONE HELP explain what went wrong???
