Used SU buying advice 120-130

Hi all,
I might be able to buy a set of used SU carbs on an online ads website here in Europe. Good price, good looking on the pictures, but too far for me to go and see them. So before I spend my money in vain and have them sent to my home, here are a few questions:
The seller states that the butterfly shafts have "very little play". From your experience, should SU's have totally tight shafts or is some play acceptable, and should I rule this set out because of that? The ones I have now on my car show what I'd call "little play" and they are a mess to tune up. Then if the seller is right (and I have no reason to think he's not) how long can it go before the "very little play" gets bad enough to justify a rebuild? I don't want to be back down the slope in 3 months from now!
Well, should i go for these carbs, knowing I want to save myself a rebuild and not give me a 6 months relief? Thanks for your ideas, Séb
