thoughts on radar detectors

Aaaaaargh. OK. Here goes.

I don't use one. Instead I drive pretty much around the limit. Or with the flow of traffic. Or behind it and not bunched up in the pack. I definitely let red cars get ahead.

I've gotten a few tickets in my younger days and I don't want any more. I've slowed down since I was a young tearaway. I've done a couple of schools also (to avoid the points on my license) and one of the things one instructor stressed was to be aware of the speed limit on the stretch of road you are on. Yes, that means paying attention. It cracks me up when people pass me doing about 45 in a 35 zone. Then when the limit increases to 45-50 there they are piddling along below the limit.

And don't get me wrong. I can drive as fast as the majority. I've had the privilege to be instructed on the Police pursuit training course in my County and I beat the required time that the Sherrif's need to qualify (with only one cone knocked down).

And 99% of the time you catch up with the guys that tore their hair out trying to get by you at the next red light anyway. It happened just again this morning - Red Mustang next to me runs the red light. There I am right behind him at the next one.

Your area driving conditions may vary.

Drive safely and good luck.
