iPod project for 245!

Anybody wire in an iPod in their 245?

I have a nice 1990 245 (wagon). I listen to my iPod in there a lot (with an iTrip FM transmitter).

I was wondering if it would be possible to run the iPod into the (separate) audio amp. Would like some kind of direct connection, instead of the FM setup). I have replaced the volvo FM head with a JBL deck (before I got the ipod, of course, it has no audio inputs).

I use the shelf under the radio and the heater vents to set the iPod. It's perfect with the iTrip, it stays put there on it's own, but I was wondering if an Apple dock would fit in that shelf. Looks like it would, but I don't have one. If I had the dock, I could (I think) wire the output and the power into it for a really nice setup, just like using a doc with the computer or stereo. Again, the iTrip is OK, just not nearly as good on sound quality--about like FM when compared to CD. Plus, the iTrip can run into interference in some areas (near power lines) and in big cities (in which I do not live but sometimes pass through.)

Finally, what are the best speakers I can get that will fit the volvo pre-cut mounts in the doors, for under $150 a pair? Know any great sources for car speakers on the 'net?

Thanks,
