Just why is it that 99% of rock chips hit directly in front of the driver?

My wife's '03 Dodge Dakota has been hit twice, both near that spot.

I've been using the windshield repair kits from Wal-Mart. They work pretty good unless the broken spot is larger than the applicator. The first spot is now invisible, and the second one is just a little flaw inside the glass. Anyway, all I was trying to do was keep the crack from spreading and make it as unobtrusive as possible.

If your break was anywhere but in front of the driver, I'd say give the repair kit a try.
