Intermittent stalls 90 745ti 700

Greetings,
My 90 745ti started to stall intermittently. When it happens the tach does not go to zero but trails the engine revs and it has started right back up even on the fly. I looked in th FAQ's and the info there said that that may indicate a fuel delivery problem. That end seems to check out OK. Would the RPM sensor cause this type of failure? In my 87 740 it stalled like this when my hall sensor was failing. Any input would be very helpful.
Thanks
Blair
