w/ new cat is downpipe replacement necessary? 700

when i first got the volvo we replaced the cat back exhaust. the cat was bad but could not afford to replace it. the time has come to do so. the header pipe seems okay with no visible leaks. i will eventually replace it but this time of the year every little bit counts. will not replacing it adversly affect the exhaust system? thanks
