B230F crank pulley question?? 200

I have a 1989 240 wagon, auto, w/189k mi. I noticed a loud engine noise (bearing, thrust washer?) at idle that disappears once rpms are raised. Inspection showed that the crank pulley appears to be moving forward (relative to the block) when rpms are increased it returns to normal position. Otherwise the car has good power and runs fine.
Putting a crow bar on the pulley, I was able to move the outer pulley forward ~ 1/4-1/2" relative to the center of the pulley. I'm guessing this is a two part pulley and I can replace it; although, the "growl" I hear in the engine when the pulley moves out of position at low rpms is not confidence inspiring, so I wonder if maybe I have two things going on... bad pulley AND bearing or T.W. failure

Has anyone experienced these symptoms? Any suggestions? I won't tear down the engine. I can get a 150k mi. motor for ~ $300 if needs be.

Thanks
Walt
