Overdrive Gremlin 200 1983

The other night while driving around town, I notice the overdrive-off light was on in Rover. Pushing the button on the shifter did nothing, and I figured the switch was going out. I was shopping and made several stops, but every time I started Rover back up, the overdrive-off light was on. The ride down the highway was a little hairy with the car stuck in 3rd, but we made it. When I got home, I removed the overdrive fuse, turned the car on, then back off. The light went out, and I was able to turn the overdrive on and off with the shifter switch. Last night coming down the highway after work, the car jumped from 4th to 3rd, the overdrive-off light came on and no matter how many times I hit the button, nothing! Again this morning, I took out the fuse, turned the car on, off, replaced the fuse and turned her back on. The whole ride to work it was fine. Is there a relay somewhere that could be freaking out, or is there another problem going on here?
