Hello, all.
This is my second post on this general topic, but I now have more sepcific questions that I hope provokes some of your informed thoughts. I am looking into an 89 244 with 133K miles from the original owner with all reciepts and no accidents. The car is a 5 speed and has had all the scheduled work (80K, 90K, 100K, 110K, 120K, etc). It is not perfect (radio sketchy, license plate lights don't work, tailpipe needs to be replaced), but the body and interior are very good and the car runs as well as my 92. So, I seek your thoughts:
1. I looked at the ECU and the last digits I found on the unit were "556" in one number set and "687" on another (there were two sets of numbers). I am worried about this being the dreaded "561" ECUs on the 1989 - but I didn't see that number on the unit. I can't find a replacement part on any of the service records and I wonder if this is indeed the orignal problematic ECU, given the numbers on the unit. It runs well - what do you think?
2. There seems to be a fluid leak around the power steering fluid container in the engine compartment (some wet grime underneath) - what does this point to?
3. There are two small spots on the trunk lid where the clear coat is oxidizing - any solution to prevent this?
4. The tape under the windows needs replaced - anyone know a good source besides the dealer?
The car shifts and drives great. They want a little above blue book. Part of my dilemma is that I have a beautiful, refined 92 automatic sedan that I love - but it has some damage repair ont he body and some rust developing along a weld. I would like to get the 5 speed, but I want your thoughts.
Thanks, and best regards,
-pu
