Start problem

I have an 89 240. It has been hesitating upon acceleration for a couple of months now and getting worse. Yesterday (Not too cold) it started but was coughing and choking until it warmed up. Today in am (22degrees) it almost started but wouldnt Seems to have flooded out. I was on the gas pedal. When I came home tonight I cranked it up w/o touching the gas and it started doing severe coughing and choking until warm. Not sure what the problem is-- sounds like fuel delivery. I have not checked the injectors- did use techron to no avail. Can clogged injectors cause these symptoms? Fuel filter was changed 1 year ago. Any help is always appreciated. Oh I forgot I pulled out the # 1 plug about 2 months ago and notied it was pretty wet. I dont know if that relates to the problem.
