Click Click DOOM!!! 200

This morning when I started driving the car was making a clicking noise. Sort of a plastic click/shake. There was no change in engine power associated with the click though the speed of the click increased with acceleration. Additionally unlike any of my other noises this one happened in idle.

Well just as I pull into my parking garage at work the radio powered off. The radio is one of the only things connected only to the alternator. The lights and my CB radio run through the battery and the alternator, so they function with the car off. I was able to make it the 500ft into a parking space, but am worried my alternator just went out and I am going to have a hell of a time getting home tonight. I parked in a secluded section of the garage, as I figure I may have to perform the transplant in the parking garage.

Any suggestions? Other than check the belts it seems like my only option is to yank the alternator and plug a new one in.
