Does cruise control affect mpg?

In my experiences using cruise control increases mpg for cars, especially normally aspirated cars. The one in our Audi Bi-Turbo works great as well because the turbos spool up quickly so the power delivery is very smooth (this is notthe case with all turbocharged engines, depending on design) The one thing that cruise can't do is anticipate...... grades. You can can increase or decrease speed in anticipation of ascending or descending a hill.
