Cold Start Injector Woes 700 1990

I've noticed that my '90 740GL hasn't had a high idle at cold start up for a while. I ran the OBD and found the code 3-2-1 indicating no signal to/from the cold start injector. I checked the plug and found the wire going to the starter solenoid had pulled from the cannon plug, I replaced it and ran a diagnostic test mode 3 and I heard the cold start injector fire (radio suppression relay tests fine also). I then cranked the engine and it fired quicker than it has in years but now the injector is not working and will not test (the continuity of the wires is fine from the ECU and the starter). The same 3-2-1 code continues to occur. I've read that there was a recall that led to the wiring of the injector to the starter solenoid causing the recurring 3-2-1 code. What gives? is there a way to test the injector and how can I get the damn thing off when a 5mm hex is too small and a 6mm is too large. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
