Weird bogging-esque sounds 200 1988

Was the power interrupted - did the car feel as though you took your foot off the gas pedal? Then it's apt to be an ignition or FI issue...and the FI issue is likely electrical too.

But if the power didn't disappear (until you pulled your foot off the accelerator!), if it was sound and maybe a little vibration, I'd check to make sure that the exhaust system is still properly secured. These cars use little rubber donuts to hang the exhaust.pipes, and when the rubber stretches, or breaks, or disappears, then the pipes can contact the sheet metal of the car body. That contact between the vibration in the pipe (normal, from the vibration of the motor) and the rigid soundboard of the body sheet metal results in sudden loud sound - "stuttering" could well describe it.
