First, a question about the seat adjustment mechanism...
Has anyone ever taken the adjustable steel frame from below a driver's seat and placed it under the passenger's seat? The goal of such an operation would be to give the passsenger's seat the same instant front and rear adjustability as the driver's seat. I think if one were to take the adjustable frame from a driver's seat out of a donor car, it may be possible, but I wanted to see if anyone had tried it yet.
Also, a note about seat heaters and the thermostat. My seats were originally leather, and the original owner had them reupholstered with velour about a year after he bought the car in 1987. The upholsterer switched the placement of the heating grids, putting the thermostat in the seat back instead of the bottom cushion. It has been that way ever since and I have never had problems with the grid wires breaking at the thermostat. For a long term solution, this might be ideal for some folks. It may also result in a slightly warmer heating of the seat, as the thermostat may take longer to switch off the heating grid when in the back of the seat as opposed to the bottom cushion. This may solve the problem of some 240 owners who claim their seat heaters perform only marginallly. Some may see this as an overheating risk, which is definitely a valid concern, but I have not yet experienced any such problems in the five years I've owned this car.
