really, REALLY cold and hunting idle 200

Minus 30C (about -20F) Well the 91 brick started on the first turn of the key, and after warming it a bit away we went (very happy I changed the oil to 5W30 a few days ago). As I pulled into my parking spot at work, fully warmed, it died, started up immediately, but now the idle was hunting at about 5 Hz, between 1500 and 2000. I tapped the little silver box beside the battery (voltage regulator?) and the idle settled to about 1K.

I'm off to donate blood right now, and hope that the problem doesn't re-occur, but maybe while I'm gone someone might have a suggestion.

Thanks
Marten
