Cheapo Snow Tire Review 200

I just wanted to post an initial impression of the cheapo snow tires I had put on my 90 245. We had the first snow in CT today / yesterday so I had a chance to check them out. My first concern when buying was price. The Volvo, as much as I love it, is primarily used for winter transport as my Honda S2000 is put away for the winter. I went with the cheapest deal I could find within 15 miles of me, and ended up with GT Radial Champiro WT 70's. Approx tire size is 195/7?/R14. I had survived (barely) two winters on some nearly bald Cooper WeatherMaster ST 2's, and that's all for comparison.

The Champiro's were $275 mounted, balanced, and taxed out the door. They make a bit more road noise than the Coopers (which is not difficult, considering the Cooopers had no tread left) but rolling resistance seems to be less (they 'hook up' more quickly i guess). With little or no weight in the back, they did fine going up a couple snowy + icy medium grade inclines, with little squirrelyness. The most astonishing difference is the stopping difference, even in emergency stopping, these guys keep the car on the straight and narrow. I love the controlled feeling of the rear drifting when performing the 'Swedish flick' around corners also. All in all I'm happy - I'll report more as we have more snow and they break in further.
