940SE Turbo 1993
Im going through a similar nightmare. Its probably a bad connection on the back of the dash. On mine I've got the dash loose in the console so that when the lights go out, I just pull the dash towards me and dab about on the back until suddenly bingo! it lights up and works again. I had it a year ago, then it went away and came back this november when it got cold in the UK so its almost certainly a bad connection. Last week I got tired of it and disconnected the turbo pipe that runs to it and pulled the dash well forward and tried just tweaking up some of the screws that hold that curcuit board/paper thing to the back. I have had the problem for about 10 days now so it was quite possibly just a bad earth, in the FAQ people are always having to mess about checking these earth connections. Oh and be careful not to touch the back of the dash on to the aluminium holder like I did the other day as the fusible link up the top of that board thing will blow and you'll lose all the dials as well as the lights . . . easy enough to repair though with some v.thin fuse wire.
So try carefully disconnecting and reconnecting the block connectors on the back and tightening the screws a little, also twist all the bulb holders to make sure they've got good connections. Oh and if those lights dont come on your battery probably isnt charging so check it with a meter when youre lights go out.
Best of luck
