Hello,
I've been lurking for a while now since purchasing a lightly used '90 760 Turbo Wagon but now I need HELP.
I was on the freeway the other day when for a split second the motor shut off and then was back on again. No sputter or hesitation, just no power for a second as I watched the rmps fall and then it was back again and all seemed fine. I made it to my destination without anymore problems.
Now, headed back home...
5 minutes into the trip it dies again in the same way but doesn't come back on.
I coast to the shoulder. Pop the hood and check for something obvious like a loose wire etc. I also take a look at the fuses and find nothing wrong. Now I crank it over and it starts. Back on the freeway for about 50 yards and it's dead again. I sit for 5 minutes restart and try again. 50 more yards and I coast safely off the freeway down a ramp and into a parking lot (what luck eh?) where now, after 5, 10 20, 30 minutes it will not restart just cranks over. An hour later the AAA guy comes for a tow.
When he pulls a plug wire to check for spark I crank it and it starts.
Towed to the local Brick shop he dumps it in the middle of the parking lot and I start it and park it. They'll be looking at it sometime tomorrow. I've never dealt with these guys before and have no idea what the problem might be so I'd like some ideas or theories from you folks to compare with their diagnosis. My Dad told me he had the same thing happen in his old '87 760 years ago but he's not at all a car guy so he never found out what got fixed.
Thanks in advance for any and all help!!
Dave
Q: could it be a simple as a clogged fuel filter?
