I've looked into a VR6 swap. I used to have a 2000 GTI with the VR6. Great motor although the rest of the car was failing after 50k miles. I replaced it with a 30 year old 164 and have had zero problems ever since - go figure.

There may be some VR6 longitudinal applications done for the later eurovans but that would be it. The VR6 is designed to be a FWD engine - the staggered cylinder placement was engineered specifically to fit the block sideways between the fenders of a small car. Would have a much easier time using a common 6 that already has RWD applications.

The 1.8L motors used in the Mercedes Oppressors might be a good candidate. Rear wheel drive application with a factory blower. Trying to control the spark and squirt fuel and engage the compressor might be a challenge.
