New wheels for 1991 240? 200

Assuming you're thinking of a nice set of alloys in place of (what I am assuming are) the standard steel wheels (+plastic wheel covers), Volvo did offer several optional style alloy wheels in 14" size, any of which are also the right (modest) width (5.5 in) for your 185/70-14 tires.

Although the list price for a new set (from your Volvo dealer) will give you a heart attack, you can readily find used sets on eBay, if not bulletin boards such as this list's, as well as wrecking yards, for a fraction of that price because few people want the 14" size.

Don't worry at all about a wheel from an older car, as alloy wheels from any year 240 fit perfectly! If the wheel doesn't have the hole for that lone "pin" that is probably (in your '91's, as it is in my '93's) rotor, don't give it another thought -- just take a 10mm wrench and remove it. You really don't need it, as the caliper holds the rotor in place anyway; but if you're concerned, you can replace the pin with an ordinary bolt of the same thread size and length.

More important, I'm leery of many non-OEM wheels -- poor quality, weak stiffness, porosity that allows air leaks, etc., are traits in a lot of third world made wheels. Also, Volvo's wheels are unusual, both in their uncommon lug hole pattern (on 4.25in/108mm), so not many major (reputable) manufacturers bother to produce them in Volvo 240's size, especially 14", which has little demand. Avoid wheels that have slots instead of holes for the lugs -- the slots being there to accommodate a variety of lug circle sizes, and therefore suitable for a greater variety of cars.

More (if not most) critical for you as a shopper concerns their offset (240's have a positive 20mm offset) because most RWD cars have a negative offset; so not many manufacturers make wheels that have the 'perfect' offset (designated "ET" on a wheel) for a 240, and therefore some distributors/retailers, eager for your money, might try to sell you a wheel that is "close" but not exactly right. Even a 700 series car's wheels aren't quite right (they have a positive 25mm offset instead), although I admit that I use such a (Volvo OEM) wheel on one of my cars -- only because it's a 6.5" wide wheel, and that increased offset is a compromise that allows it to fit. For you modest sized wheels, stick to ET=+20mm wheels.

Good luck.
