what causes warp rotors? 200

after doing some research, I think I may have warp rotors, maybe a mild case. what is the cause of rotors going warp? the thing is that my car had been in storage for nearly six months, and during that time the rotors got rusty. when I got to driving it, the use of the brakes rubbed off the rust. could this be the culprit? could the rust residue have "glazed" my pads or the rotors themselves? I had the front pads changed maybe 10k+ miles ago, I'm not a hard braker. only a few times was I forced to brake hard. I know this is not the most accurate way, but I used my nail and finger tip to feel the surface of the rotors, and they feel smooth. there isn't much of a height difference between the edge of the rotors and the contact surface. and by warp, does that just mean the surface of the rotor is uneven or does it mean that the entire rotor is physically out of shape? thanks!
