544 improvements 444-544 1951

Well folks, I've bit the bullet and am in the process of installing 1967 P1800 front rotors on my 1964 544, and there have been quite a few difficulties to overcome replacing missing parts, deteriated seals and O rings, re-drilling the caliper mounting brackets, modifying the backing plates to clear the tie rod ends, making new brake lines from the caliper to the bracket on the backing plate(which had to be moved and modified) and the toughtest part was getting the pistons out of the calipers after they had not moved in 30 years. I expect to be done in about a week and if all goes well and I will have 2 front drums with bearings, backing plates with new wheel cylinders, and almost new brake shoes to sell at bargain basement prices. I also have a nice painted grill surround with an excellent grill center section, a very, very nice banjo steering wheel, 4 nice Baby Moon hubcaps, a very good, cleaned and painted valve cover (B18) with filler cap, and about a dozen pieces of side chrome in outstanding condition. I can send pictures on request. jimb@grandsavings.net
