B230FT I need help with the valve/crank timing! 900 1992

Hi all,

Got everything apart, cleaned up the block - got my new gasket kit and would like to put this rig back together..however.

- the books make it sound cake to line up all the marks...( after you've removed half the engine (crank pulley, timing cover (lower) etc..)

I did find another pic on alldatadiy.com showing to line up a groove on top of the crank pulley with a 0 deg notch on the timing marks on the lower timing belt cover..

OK so the top 2 marks are easy. however... if you line this bottom one up with 0. the #1 piston is NOT at TDC its about 1" below....

whats up with that?

is this correct?

ok went back out and looked some more... if you line up the DOT (indentation on the FACE of the pulley) w/ the 0 mark your at TDC...

but the "line" they picture puts you about 1" below tdc..which do i use??
