Air Conditioner On caused B21A Engine to stall at Idle 200

Hello,

Have a 1981 244DL with B21A engine, Zenith-Stromberg 175CD 2SE Carburetor and Borg Warner 55 Automatic Transmission.

Thought I final got everything perfect. Yesterday, the engine stalled in an intersection, waiting to turn, with Air Conditioner On, in Drive.

It restarted, easily, in Neutral, with the Air Conditioner off.

When I got home, I checked the Solenoid operation mounted just behind the Throttle Plate on the Intake Manifold. Turning the Ignition Key On with all lights on, below the Clock, Speedometer, Fuel Gauge Cluster, the Solenoid visibly clicked, while retracting fully, though the engine was turned off and the air conditioning switch was in the off position. I also checked the voltage. When I turned the Air Condition Switch On, the voltage changed and the Solenoid Plunger seemed to move slightly.

Is this normal operation? The solenoid seems to work. I screwed the Solenoid back in, plugged the single-wire spade-connector onto it and started the engine, with the Air Conditioning Off. It ran normally. When I pulled the spade-connector, the engine stalled, immediately. Is this normal? Is the Solenoid suppose to be alive all the time or just when the Air Conditioner is on. I imagine cars that do not have A/C do not have this solenoid. Am I correct? If not, then why doesn't the engine continue to run with the Solenoid disconnected?

Any information would be appreciated.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year all
