Sticking Accelerator Linkage 900 1992

Twice over the last few weeks something in the throttle linkage stuck open . outside temperatures were around -17C / 0F. The first time I was able to stop in a safe place and after removing the cover and shaking everything there was this great click and all was well. At home, all the parts I could reach got cleaned and squirted with lots of WD40. Stuck again next cold day and got unstuck with a couple of good kicks on the pedal. Anyone had this problem? Neither Chuck or I being of advanced years need this sort of excitement on the home commute. Merry Xmas.
